I purchased this wireless system after extensive research. I have used it for over a year now and am very satisfied. We have a large yard that slopes down to a pond and the system works great. We only change the battery every 3 months or so. This system has protected our dog countless times. I recommend it to anyone with a dog.
I bought this product for my 3 year old Lab, that's lets just say very hyperactive. Once I got the fence, it took me maybe 45 minutes to set up, maybe even less than that. My lab is a whole lot happier now that she gets to roam around the yard more and not have to be on a leash. I would recommend this product to anybody that has a dog over 8 pounds, it works for any dog, and if you have a dog that's as hyper as mine, i'd say level 4 on the static correction level should do the trick!
This is a wonderful item! Our dog learned not to go near the flags the first day we taught him and we have the setting on 2. I can even let him out without the collar but I feel safer with it on. This product is great!

- Seemingly random warning beeps when collar is well inside pet area.
After setting up the transmitter, I encountered an oddity while planting the boundary flags. At some locations the receiver would start to beep and shock as expected in the boundary zone, but it wouldn't stop until I carried it 15-20 feet back into the pet area. It would not start shocking in this 15-20 foot range of the pet area, but it wouldn't stop shocking either. This was happening on a roughly 50 foot arc of the boundary.
I contacted customer support by phone. The guy told me that there may be a metallic object underground where this problem is occurring. Adjusting the transmitter power slightly may help avoid trouble areas. Though doubtful that my gravel driveway and half of the front yard was sitting on top of a large hunk of mystery metal, I couldn't prove otherwise. So we gave it a try.
When trying to hammer a round peg into a square hole there aren't a lot of options. We tried what transmitter locations and boundary range settings would work on our property. None of the alternatives solved the problem, but we decided to give it a go anyway. I placed flags well inside the perimeter on the screwed up portion and began training the dog at a more reliable part of the yard.
The shocks did a great job of keeping our dog, Helmut, inside the perimeter. It took a good deal of coaxing and bribery to get him to come near the flags a 2nd time. We got him comfortable on a spot in the lawn five feet inside of a flag. The collar began beeping after he had been sitting motionless for a few minutes. Helmut ran back to the patio and wouldn't come back on the grass. We pulled the flags up and put everything away for a couple days.
For the second attempt, I took lots of time to be extra careful when placing the flags.
1) I would lay the receiver on the ground when it started to beep, and drag it along the grass until it stopped. This spot would be double checked.
2) Then I would place a flag 2 feet inside of the spot where beeping stopped.
3) Finally, I'd kneel a foot or two inside of the newly planted flag while facing it so my body was between the transmitter and receiver. Then I'd roll the receiver around, and gently press it into the ground to make sure there's no way it'll beep inside the flags.
I fit the collar on Helmut and brought him out again. He laid in the grass just off the back patio, around 20 feet inside the perimeter. I sat down by him with a book. After maybe 5 minutes of neither of us moving, the collar gave a warning beep and Helmut jumped up which prevented a shock. He then went crazy clawing at the door to get back inside.
Random electrocutions to motionless dogs in the pet area was not a feature I saw advertised on the box.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who lives in a straw house on a perfectly level circular lot during a full moon.
This system works great for our Jack Russell/Beagle. It is so nice to be able to see him play and run outside with no worries. We live on a busy state route and I've seen many animals hit on our road. This system works on our yard that is pretty flat. We mounted our box in our basement next to metal shelving units and have had no problems. This price is so much more reasonable than the wired fences. Try it - you can always return it if it doesn't work out. When our dog hears the beep he turns around and will not go further. He will not even go through it to chase geese or our cats. He's part beagle! - I thought that would never happen!
I had problems using this product. My lot is slightly sloped, so after reading the other reviews, I purchased the product. This only worked on the completely level side of my yard. On the sloped side, the dog ran right past the zoned area. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Not sure if it was just defective, but make sure you have a completely level lot before purchasing this product.
Our sneaky, smart, get out of any kind of containment, kill the neighbors chickens dog...has not figured out how to get out of this! It took her less than a week to "get it". We have had it for quite awhile now and the battery doesn't work anymore but she knows when we put that collar on...we mean business! One thing that I would have liked to have known when I bought it and maybe it says in there somewhere...I thought the beeping sound was a warning sound, then you get the zap. So...I zapped her a few times before I realized oops, beeping means zap.
I decided to purchase a Petsafe PIF-300 Wireless Containment System after researching in ground fences. I was skeptical after reading the reviews describing the problems others have had with this system. I have some of the same conditions (small dog, sloping yard) that others have had problems with. I called the Petsafe support line to discuss my concerns. Their customer service was very nice but they couldn't promise that I wouldn't have some of the same issues that I read that others had.
I decided to go ahead and purchase the system despite my concerns as I figured the pros of the system would out weigh the cons. I'm very glad that I did. The transmitter and collar were very easy to set up. I read the directions and had the system up and running in less than an hour. I mounted the transmitter to a wall in a back room of my basement and it works great. I haven't had any interference problems even with a large metal oil drum, furnace, metal stair hatch, and refridgerator in the same room as the transmitter. The directions say to keep it on the ground level at least 2-4 feet from the floor but it worked better for me when I moved it from the main floor to a wall the basement.
Training our dog couldn't have been easier (miniature dachshund ~ 11 lbs). She's only went out of the zone and gotten corrected twice. Now she'll turn right around when she hears the collar beep. The collar fits her small neck but it's a little bit wider than her other collars. I poked two small holes in one of her older collars, unscrewed the receiver from the collar provided, and moved it to the smaller collar with no problems. The unit comes with a tool to remove the receiver from the collar with ease.
One feature that I don't like and that has been discussed in previous reviews is the circular radius of the safe zone. Many, like myself, have a rectangular shaped property. I have to allow the zone to enter my neighbor's yard a bit on each side to allow her enough room to roam in the front and back yard of my house. I talked this over with my neighbor's beforehand and it's not a problem with them. This didn't lower my rating as I knew of this feature before I purchased the product.
One user posted that they had problems with the receiver beeping inside the house intermittently when it wasn't around the dog's neck. I had this problem and realized that the collar was laying face down on a shelf. I now store it face up and havn't had the problem since.
A feature that I absolutely love is the portability. We bring the unit when we stay with friends and family and it works great. It's so nice not having to tie the dog up or walk her around on a leash all the time. She spends so much more time outside now that we don't have to worry about her running away or running into traffic.
Another great feature is that it will continue to correct, for 30 seconds, until the dog is back into the safe zone. This was an important feature for me. I have many friends with in ground fences and they've had problems where their dog has bolted through the underground wire fence and then run away. The in ground fence will only correct when the dog passes over the wire in the ground.
I couldn't be happier with this product and I want to thank everyone who posted a review to aid my decision to purchase it.
This product is great. My dog is very responsive to the collar and pet containment system.
I had high hopes for this fence after reading all the 5 star reviews but was disappointed in the fence overall.
It is easy to plug in and set up but it was inconsitent. At times my dog would run through it across the street and at other times it shocked her when she was right by the front door (less than 3 feet from the unit.) Level 4 scared my dog. She hid in her kennel for an hour after being shocked. Yet when I had it on leverl 2 shocking it did nothing to her.
We figured out after 3 hours of messing with it that there were spots it worked and spots it did not. Obviously we need a consistent unit so we are going to go the undergroung fence route.
I would not waste my time buying it.
