I do wallpaper and painting for a living, which often involves wall repairs. I had no trouble learning how to use the sander, the swirl marks others talked about are easy to avoid, but even if you did leave the swirl marks, they would be undetectable through wallpaper or flat paint. Virtually dust free, I could not notice any dust at all. This thing is going to save me a lot of labor in sanding and dust control. So far, I've only used it on two jobs, so my only concern is that it doesn't break on me.

Customer Buzz

As a remodeling contractor, I usually sub out drywall finishing, but sometimes a small job or timing make subbing impractical and I'm stuck with the task. Recently I raised a 25'x 30' ceiling from flat to half-cathedral and I did the drywall finish--smooth/no texture. I've always been curious about this sander, but the reviews left me reluctant to buy one for as little as I'd use it. Then I saw that my local rental center had one and this was my chance to try it. I found it to be a life-saver.

Yes, it gets heavy and tiring while sanding a ceiling, but anyone who's ever used a pole sander or hand sander on a ceiling can tell you that it's extremely tiring and messy no matter the tool. At least this power sander eliminates most of the messy part with its effective dust collection, and I was able to sand the entire ceiling in under 30 minutes. Furthermore, I found that it could do aggressive sanding with little more work than light sanding depending on the sandpaper grit and speed I moved the machine, as well as RPM setting. Frankly, I'm mediocre at mudding/taping, but with this sander I found that I could really cake the mud on and still end up with a nice finish.

If I finished drywall full-time, I'd probably get so good at it that this machine might not be worth the hassle, but for a guy like me, it's well worth it. Rent one and try it...you'll either love it or hate it by the end of the day. It's on my wish list.

while this product looks like the cats meow it is more like the cats litter box. After 30 minutes of use the motor stopped working completely. Controlling the product even with the 150 grit porter cable sanding disks is not at all easy. The dust collection control ring brush is way too long. you have to press fairly hard to get the sanding disk to even engage the wall. then with this much preasure it is hard to contol. You have to be very carefull at this point not to exert even the sligthtest amount of excess preassure or else you can hear the motor start to load down. Trying to send mine back now after the 30 minute motor waranty ran out.

Customer Buzz

This product does exactly what it says it will, and does it extremely well. This is a powerful sander which produces very little dust.

However, after two days of experimentation, I could not control the device to the point that I wasn't dinging, gouging, and scraping too much mud (or the paper) off the drywall. This thing cost me way more time than it saved me. If I were a professional I might consider investing in this, as then I might be able to figure out how to use it effectively. As a do-it-yourselfer I have been having far better results and just as little dust with hand tools. The Hyde Dust Dog Pole Sander Kit for Dustless Drywall Sanding and the Marshalltown DuraSoft® Dustless Drywall Vacuum Sander cost far, far less and give more predictable results. Yes, it takes a little more elbow grease, but it gives far better results and ends up taking a heck of a lot less time than going back and fixing the scrapes again and again.

Customer Buzz

It does do a great job on floors. I know it isn't a floor sander, but I was helping my brother in law work on an addition at their house, and needed to level out some tongue and groove pine flooring. I had the drywall sander with me; it was Sunday, and the rental places were closed, so I decided to give it a try. The drywall sander with it's gimballed floating head let me do it in short order. Actually it took a few hours to work my way through the grits from 80 to 220, but when I was done, we just vacuumed and sealed the floor.

Basically if you have a wide flat surface you need to smooth up the PC 7800 will do a good job. (I have also used it to sand several layers of paint off old doors.) Be sure to get drywall filter bags for your shop vacuume, they catch almost all of the dust.

Customer Buzz

I read a lot of reviews before buying the PC drywall sander. Needless to say, this is the best drywall tool purchase I've ever made, and the bursitis in my arms and shoulders think so, too. Being a remodeler and also doing repairs for several property managers, this makes for quick, easy, and clean work. I just attach it to my 8-gal. shop-vac equipped with a drywall dust bag, and a cleanstream filter as a secondary backup, there's almost no dust at all. It took some getting used to, but once I got the hang of it, it leaves very little swirl marks. Like some of the other reviewers said, don't push it and let the machine do the work. Since I haven't hung more than 40 4x12's in any one job, I've been using No-Coat to tape the inside corners and while it costs a bit more, it saves time because I can stay away from the corners, for the most part. What little hand sanding I do after the final coat, I use a hand or pole sander that attaches to a vac; found them at the local Grabber dealer. All in all, this is one tool that is worth every penny.

Customer Buzz

...before I bought this machine was this: Will it work with my inexpensive Ridgid shop vac? The answer is yes -- I bought a HEPA filter at Home Depot for the shop vac, hooked it up to the Porter-Cable sander, and voila! Dustless drywall sanding! (Or nearly so -- I still wear a particulate filter to catch those tiny bits that you can't see.) The sander works well and the vacuum hook-up means that what has traditionally been a very dusty job can be done with relative ease and comfort. We're quite pleased with the sander and once we're done with our big project we will sell it, either via Amazon or eBay. It sure beats renting a tool like this!

Customer Buzz

I still don't know what to think about this sander. I tried it several times and here are my thoughts. If you are doing the job from start to finish this sander will get heavy after about 10 minutes. It weighs too much, especially if you are doing a ceiling. I like the idea but it's an expensive piece of equipment. I felt as though I had to push down on the unit to get it to sand. This is where it starts to get heavy. I think I'm going to try the Fiba-Tape dustless pole sander next. As for my Porter Cable 7800, well eBay it is.

Update: I tried the Wilco Dustless pole sander and I think it's a better alternative.

Customer Buzz

I never write online reviews, but this thing made such an impression on me, I felt like I needed to share my experience with those of you that may be thinking of spending this kind of $$$$. If you have ever done any drywall sanding you know what a pain and mess it is besides the general exhaustion. This tool is awesome!!!!! I sanded 6 rooms, including the ceiling (not corners, only joints and screw heads) in the time it takes to do one. I am totally impressed, I was even able to get inside closets. The sanding head will essentially rotate to any position w/o causing you to substantially change your position. Use your own shop vac, I did and hardly ever saw any dust.........I didnt even wear a mask, thats how little dust is generated.I believe the claim to do do higher than 9' ceilings is a little bit of a stretch. I found my 9' ceiling sanding to be more comfortable if I was on Werners 4' portable/folding scaffolding (another high recommendation.) I would recommend this sander to anyone who is going to do more than one room (only because of cost) of sanding. It is very easy to use and I feel confident with a little more use of it, you can do final sanding with a 220 grit pad. It wont wear you out doing walls, but gets a little heavy doing ceilings. I recommend splitting your work and doing part ceiling and part walls giving yourself a rest. Ive just started my drywall in my basement, but will back online soon to write a final review when Im finished.

Customer Buzz

I purchased this tool because I had a drywall contractor repair and plaster my 1940's style home. The contractor did a horrable job, thus I purchased this tool because of the large volume of sanding. After a few lessions on pressure and speed I got the hang of it. TAKE YOUR TIME - GO SLOW when using this product and the results are great. The dust collection is good. Overall, I like this tool very much.

Porter-cable 9984 19.2-volt ni-cad 1/2-inch cordless drill/driver kit

Customer Buzz
This drill has a lot of torque, solid feel, and seems durable. We've used these in our lab for many years and abused them quite a bit, and they've come through great. I do wish it had bubble levels mounted in the casing on the side and on the opposite end from the chuck, like some Craftsman drills do. Batteries charge fast and last a long time.

Customer Buzz
If you screw frequently, as many of us do, then this device is for you. I try to screw as often as possible and admit that in my younger days, I preferred to screw manually without the aid of any sort of electrical apparatus. As I think back, I never had any complaints unless I screwed after drinking a little too much. You see, I have found that high alcohol consumption may lead to instantaneous, inappropriate, sometimes regrettable and often very sloppy screwing that no one really appreciates when the task is complete.

I recommend to anyone having the desire to improve their screwing ability, aim and stamina, to go ahead and purchase this device because at times, all of us require a screwing partner.

Customer Buzz
As I have come to expect, this is another really great tool from Porter Cable. Very strong drive and what appears to be really good battery life. The cordless chuck even has a "lock up" feature that automatically locks the gears when you are manually changing bits (ever wrestle with the other kind?).

Customer Buzz
This drill has great power. We are building our home, and this drill is handling every job we use it on with ease. It has the greatest torque of any drill we saw, and enough power to do any task. We highly recomend this product.

Customer Buzz
I bought this about a year ago and it works perfectly. Plenty of power.

Customer Buzz
Nice drill. It has good grips and can drill and screw with the best, except when I chucked a brand new 7/8" bit to drill holes for wiring. I was drilling my second hole, when it began to smoke and fry inside the motor. I bought it for the 1/2" drive and also, because I bought the cordless router, which have the same batteries. I am exchanging the drill for another, to see if it was just mine. Will update review after I receive my new one.

Customer Buzz
Great tool for the pro, not for a hobbyist or casual user. Tool is heavy and has a great deal of torque. It could easily get away from an unsuspecting user.
For the professional, this is a really good and reliable tool that has all the power that would want. The batteries are rapid charging and are generally available from recharge before you wear out the previous battery.

Customer Buzz
I have two of these drills, one is a hammerdrill also. the older of the two is about 2 1/2 years old(not a GTF model) and is used every day. I'm still on the original batteries. Just the other day the chuck assembly pulled out of the drill while trying to drill a 1/2" hole with a long auger bit threw 2 6x6's. when i pulled up on the drill. the chuck and bit stayed in the 6x6's. this is the first time that's ever happened in 2 1/2 years. I took the drill apart and fixed it. seems a C clip came off inside which holds the chuck in the drill. I wouldn't recommend taking these drills apart, because it took like 3 hours to get back together. and now the drill only has low speed. but still works fine. i'm shopping for a new drill incase this one breaks again. the hammerdrill/driver PC drill is about a year old and still works fine. the batteries last a while and have been charged many many times. not a day goes by on my jobs where both of these drills aren't out working. always two batteries on charge. I'm a builder in NJ, not a DIY home owner, so these drills definitely get plenty of use.
I'm not sure if I'll replace the one that broke with the same exact drill. I'm willing to try another drill to see if they are any better. 2 1/2 years for a drill that gets used every single day, isn't bad at all. and I never had to replace the batteries! like I said, it still works, just no high gear(that was because I didn't reassemble the tool correctly) fixing it myself was still better than buying a new drill right away.

Customer Buzz
This is a great tool; smooth, not heavy, rugged case, good power. This does have plastic drive gears which eventually wear out but is fine the casual worker or light work. I spent 3 weekends driving 3/8 lags screws and stripped the gears. No problem getting a new drill. I have 2 other similar models but the batteries last about 2 hours with medium work load and may take 4 or more hours to cool off and take 2 hours to charge. My old model PC drill last 4 hours and charges in about 1 1/2 hours

Porter-cable 691 11 amp 1-3/4-horsepower d-handle router with 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch collets

Best Price Porter Cable 691. Free Shipping. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz
This product is very good. It is sturdy and works for me.
I would give it a five star rating.

Customer Buzz
I've had mine for over three years now and haven't had a problem yet. As far as torque is concerned it's not Porter Cable's top of the line but it is in the way of the base design. The D-handle with power trigger is the way to go for maximum router control. I noticed that another customer accused this router of being a "knuckle buster." This is only true if you change bits incorrectly. If you position the wrenches close enough together you can squeeze them toward each other with one hand for the initial loosening.

Customer Buzz
I've owned this router for more than 10 years. It is dead reliable. I prefer the D-handle version as it affords better control. The 690 line is still THE standard reference for routers, though the design is aging. I would expect that anyone buying this router would be quite happy with it, but as more and more routers come available with variable speed, soft-start, better adjustment mechanisms, shaft locks, etc., the decision is harder than it used to be. 10 years ago I would have given this router 5 stars. The quality hasn't changed, but the market has. If a basic router fits your usage, however, you've found the right one - and without maintenance worry on features you don't need.

4 stars for showing its age.

Customer Buzz
This is an excellent router choice, either if you were looking for an extra router to add to your routing arsenals or simply looking for your first router. It is powerful and yet easy to handle. I believe this is the perfect router to be used on a dovetail jig, especially the Porter Cable jigs.

Customer Buzz
probably one of the best made would be perfect if they changed to a lever release and variable speed

Porter-cable 7336 6-inch variable speed random orbit sander only

Best Price Porter Cable 7336. Free Shipping. Buy Now!.

Customer Buzz
Again I replaced our sander that we have had for a few years. These work great.

Customer Buzz
The Porter-Cable 6 inch variable speed random orbit sander has performed outstanding as both a sander and buffer. Yes I would recommend this to a friend.

Customer Buzz
this is a very nice tool. it removes stock quickly yet no swirls are apparent. i have the smaller porter cable RO sander but find myself using this one more. this is a well balanced, relatively vibration free tool. for you car nuts, it comes with a buffing attachment so you can use it in that capacity too

Customer Buzz
I have had the 7336 for 10-13 years and I too have stopped using my belt sander. It removes stock rapidly, yet is easy to control which is great when being used by unskilled employees. I have had problems with the switch. I think it gets fouled with the dust as I "fixed" it one time just by blowing the switch with compressed air for 30 seconds. I think I'll buy a couple of switches. They appear easy to replace. Last note: a 5" disk is only 70% of the size of a 6" disk, so you have a lot less abrasive on the work surface. btw, I have large hands and don't grip the tool too tightly - no problem with my wrists...

Customer Buzz
Porter-Cable 7336 6-Inch Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander Only

After borrowing this same sander on different occasions from two of my friends, I decided I needed to buy my own. Just as I expected, it works great! It is easy to handle, easy to change discs, and if you need it in a tight spot, the handle comes off in seconds.

Customer Buzz
I had this thing for awhile before I really started to use it. I bought it based on the reviews I read here. I used it to sand spackling off plaster walls, about 5 rooms worth. Then the motor ground to a buzzing halt.

The variable speed dial became nearly impossible to move toward the end of its short life.

I'll buy another sander, but it sure won't be a Porter Cable.

Customer Buzz
I own/operate a log home restoration company. After blasting a home, we hand sand the entire exterior using random orbit sanders. I've used the Porter Cable primarily for the last year. I've gone through 6 sanders during this time and each one has had the exact same failure.....the on/off switch. I've torn them apart and cleaned them, but if you look at the switch design, it is incredibly flimsy and poorly designed. The motor is great and the machine is great if they would FIX THE *&^*&%@ SWITCH! I'm currently looking hard for another brand to replace these faulty sanders.

Customer Buzz
I bought this to polish and wax my 45' Boat. Special pads apply the polish a second pad applies the wax and a third bonet polishes the wax to a beautiful shine. This past spring I used it to sand the bottom of the boat. Extremely impressed with the waxing and sanding ability. As you might imagine, you need a lot of time to wax a large boat and this product cuts the effort in half. I also use it to polish and wax the cars. Best sander/polisher I have ever owned.

Customer Buzz
I will now be able to put the other 5 sanders away.I have 2 belt sanders that will go though stock a bit faster but are much more difficult to control and with just one false move severe damage is the result. While the 7336 is just a bit slower it is a breeze to control. A big feature for me was the veritable speed as different wood requires different settings to maximize stock removal. I have not only been impressed with its ability to remove stock but also to put a glass finish on a surface. The hard maple dresser that I recently completed was the first test for a smooth finish and the 7336 scored a perfect 5 in my book. I would recommend this sander to everyone looking to purchase only one sander.

Customer Buzz
For over 5 years, this has been my go-to tool, whenever I needed to do some sanding. It puts palm sanders to shame and my belt sander back in the box. I have also used it with a wool bonnet to polish my car, at lower speeds.
I would have rated it 5 stars except it is starting to die. The variable speed dial only revs the machine up half way, which is too slow for sanding. I plan to buy another and hope that Porter Cable (and Milwaulkie!) will start using better switches and variable speed controllers.
BTW, I have also used the dust collection kit that Porter Cable sells for this sander and would rate it 2 stars.
